Description/Blazon

On a scarlet disc, a yellow sun emitting twelve rays is surmounted by a blue horizontal wavy band bearing a yellow gliding snake.

Symbolism

The wavy band and snake are derived from the coat of arms of the former 116th Armored Cavalry Regiment, representing the Snake River and the Snake River Valley, the former organization's home area. The sun signifies the state of Idaho, known for its beautiful sunrises. The name, derived from Shoshoni Indian words, translates to "the sun comes down the mountain" or "it is morning." Yellow, the predominant color, symbolizes Armored Cavalry units.

Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the 116th Armored Cavalry Regiment on October 9, 1967. It was redesignated for the 116th Cavalry Brigade, effective September 1, 1989, with revised symbolism.
