Description/Blazon:

A mural crown Or from which emerge a garland with the dexter branch of a cactus and the sinister branch of a palm, Proper, encircling a sun in splendor Argent. Below the device is a red scroll inscribed "NON CEDO FERIO" in gold letters.

Symbolism:

The mural crown, cactus, and palm symbolize the Regiment's service in the Mexican War and the Philippine Insurrection. The sun in splendor represents the accolades and recognition earned by the Regiment. The motto translates to "I Yield Not, I Strike."

Background:

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 3d Coast Artillery Regiment on January 8, 1925. It was redesignated for the 3d Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion on March 13, 1950, and cancelled on November 16, 1959. The insignia was restored and authorized for the 3d Air Defense Artillery Regiment effective September 1, 1971.
