The 8th Cavalry Regiment is an armored cavalry unit within the United States Army. Established in 1867, it has a rich history that includes significant contributions to several major conflicts throughout its existence, such as the Indian Wars, the Philippine-American War, World War I, and both World War II and the Korean War under the U.S. 1st Cavalry Division. The regiment is currently part of the U.S. Army's 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, stationed at Fort Bliss in Texas. The 8th Cavalry Regiment operates primarily with M1 Abrams tanks and Stryker vehicles. It is recognized as one of the oldest and most decorated cavalry regiments in the U.S. Army.
