The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a New Deal agency under the administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt established during the Great Depression in the United States. Created on March 31, 1933, it aimed to provide relief and employment for unmarried, unemployed young men aged 18–25 by enrolling them in a national service program focused on conservation projects throughout federal, state, and municipal lands. The CCC's activities included natural resource management, flood control, erosion control, forestry, and infrastructure development. The program ended in 1942 due to the increased demand for manpower during World War II. Over its nine-year existence, the CCC enrolled approximately 3 million young men who completed a variety of conservation projects across the nation. The CCC is often remembered as one of the most important and popular New Deal programs and left an enduring impact on the U.S. landscape and national infrastructure.
