The Coat of Arms of Croatia, historically known as the State of Slovenes, Croats, and Serbs, is an official heraldic symbol representing the Croatian state. This coat of arms, featuring a shield divided into three parts, is one of the oldest symbols in Europe with continuous use dating back to the 10th century. The uppermost part shows a red and white checkerboard pattern (Chequy of France), a historical symbol associated with Croatia since the 10th century. The middle part displays three overlapping, six-pointed silver stars (Tricolor) representing the three historic Croatian lands: Croatia Proper, Dalmatia, and Slavonia. The lowest part features a white and red field, known as the Arms of Croatia in the Field of Krapina. The coat of arms served as the national symbol during the union with Hungary (1102-1918) and has been officially adopted by the modern Republic of Croatia since 1990, symbolizing unity, heritage, and the enduring spirit of the Croatian people.
