The Coat of Arms of the Zaporozhian Host represents a historical military and semi-autonomous Cossack entity from the geographical region known as the Zaporizhia Sich, located on the Dnieper River in present-day Ukraine. This symbol is significant in Ukrainian history, as the Zaporozhian Cossacks played crucial roles in the country's defense against the Ottoman Empire and Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth during the 16th to 18th centuries. The coat of arms features a shield divided into four quadrants. In the first and fourth quarters, there is an image of St. Michael the Archangel slaying a dragon, symbolizing the Cossacks' protective role against foreign threats. In the second and third quarters, there are three black, upright ears of wheat (or "wheat spikes"), representing the fertility of the Ukrainian lands and the Zaporozhian Host's agrarian roots. Adopted officially in 1596, this coat of arms became a symbol of the Zaporozhian Host's unity, resilience, and independence. The design has been modified over time but remains an essential element of Ukrainian national identity, symbolizing courage, freedom, and the spirit of self-governance.
