The first quarter displays a banner inscribed with "La Union Hace La Fuerza" (Union Makes Strength), which is a motto emphasizing unity and strength. The second quarter has a representation of the Andes Mountains, symbolizing the western region of the country. The third quarter showcases an indigenous chief, representing the native population, while the fourth quarter presents a European-style castle, symbolizing the Spanish settlers. Above the shield, there's a cap of Maintenance (a crown without a visible cross) indicating sovereignty but no imperial claims. The crest consists of a palm tree and a spear, symbols of liberty.
