Soyuz 33 refers to the thirty-third crewed flight mission of the Soviet Union's Soyuz program, which was launched on October 17, 1976. The primary objective of this mission was to dock with the Salyut 5 space station for a long duration stay by its three cosmonauts. The Soyuz 33 spacecraft carried Georgy Gadzheyev, Vitaly Zholobov, and Aleksei Gulyak as its crew. Upon launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, Soyuz 33 successfully docked with Salyut 5 on October 18. The mission concluded on January 29, 1977, when the Soyuz spacecraft returned safely to Earth with its crew. The Soyuz program remains one of the longest continuously operated human spaceflight programs in history, playing a significant role in the Soviet Union's and later Russia's manned space efforts, including its participation in the International Space Station (ISS) program. The Soyuz 33 mission marked another successful achievement in the ongoing exploration and utilization of space for long-duration human stays.
