Soyuz 38 (Soyuz Space Programme) Soyuz 38 was a mission under Russia's manned spaceflight program, the Soyuz Space Program. As part of the Interkosmos program, it carried cosmonaut Vladimir Dzhanibekov from the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakian civilian scientist Vladimír Remek to the Salyut 6 space station. The launch occurred on March 28, 1982, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Soyuz 38 was significant as it marked the first time a non-cosmonaut traveled to space from the Soviet Union and the first mission under the Interkosmos program involving a civilian astronaut. The mission spent eight days on Salyut 6, performing experiments and demonstrating that international cooperation could be successful in space exploration. The Soyuz spacecraft returned safely to Earth on April 5, 1982.
