Soyuz MS-09 (Soyuz Programme) The Soyuz MS-09 was a manned spacecraft mission as part of the Soyuz Program, launched by Roscosmos (the Russian federal space agency). The flight designation MS-09 stands for Modernized Spacecraft (Modifikirovanniy Sputnik, or "Modified Satellite" in Russian) 09. The mission was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on June 6th, 2018, and docked with the International Space Station (ISS) two days later. The Soyuz MS-09 spacecraft carried a three-member crew, consisting of two Russian astronauts—Sergey Prokopiev and Aleksey Ovchinin—and American astronaut Serena Auñón-Chancellor. Their mission on the ISS lasted about six months, during which they conducted various scientific experiments. The spacecraft safely returned to Earth on December 3rd, 2018, landing in the Kazakhstan steppe. The Soyuz Program is one of the oldest and most successful human spaceflight programs, with over 140 launches since its inception in 1967. It has been instrumental in transporting astronauts to and from the ISS as part of the ISS partnership among multiple nations.
