VMAQ-1 Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 1 (USMC) The VMAQ-1, also known as the "Cowboys," is a tactical electronic warfare squadron of the United States Marine Corps. This squadron, part of Marine Aircraft Group 39 and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, specializes in electronic warfare (EW) operations to detect, jam, or spoof enemy radar and communication systems, thereby protecting friendly aircraft and ground forces. The VMAQ-1 operates the EA-6B Prowler, an all-weather, twin-engine jet aircraft designed specifically for electronic warfare missions. These aircraft are equipped with various sensors and jamming devices to carry out their specialized roles in combat environments. The squadron is based at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, but it is capable of deploying worldwide on short notice as a part of a marine air-ground task force (MAGTF).
