The XI Corps is a formation of the United States Army that was active during various periods between 1862 and 2006. Originally established as part of the Union Army during the American Civil War, it underwent several reorganizations over the years. In World War I, it served on the Western Front, and in World War II, it was involved in the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. During the Korean War, the XI Corps was responsible for the defense of the Pusan Perimeter and later participated in the Inchon Landing and the advance to the Yalu River. The corps was deactivated after the Korean War but reestablished in 1957 during the Cold War era. It was disbanded again in 2006 as part of a larger reorganization within the U.S. Army structure. Throughout its history, the XI Corps has been characterized by its adaptability and service in significant conflicts of the 20th century.
