Description/Blazon
A shield blazoned: Azure, a saltire Argent, with an oak tree eradicated of the same in chief. Above the shield, from a wreath Argent and Azure, is a lion's head erased Or, collared and surrounded by four fusils Gules. Below and to the sides of the shield is a gold scroll inscribed "FIDELIS ET FORTIS" in black letters.
Symbolism
The blue shield represents Infantry, while the white saltire cross honors the regiment's service in the Civil War. The silver oak tree symbolizes the regiment’s service in World War I, specifically the Argonne Forest. The motto, which translates to "Faithful and Brave," reflects the legacy of the old 1st New Jersey Infantry.
Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 113th Infantry Regiment on March 26, 1925. It was amended to include the motto on July 22, 1925. The insignia was redesignated for the 113th Armored Infantry Battalion on July 5, 1952, and later redesignated for the 113th Infantry Regiment with the State crest included on June 5, 1961.
