Description/Blazon

A blue shield adorned with a Gila monster positioned bendwise, head facing downward. A blue scroll with the inscription "CUIDADO" in gold is attached below the shield.

Symbolism

The Gila monster, native to Arizona, symbolizes the tenacity and security of the 158th Infantry Regiment, past and present. Blue represents the Infantry and signifies loyalty and faith. The motto "CUIDADO" (Take Care) serves as both a warning to adversaries and a reminder of caution to the Regiment’s members.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was initially approved for the 158th Infantry Regiment, Arizona National Guard, on 22 July 1924. It has undergone several redesignations, including for the 1581st Military Police Battalion and the 153d Field Artillery Brigade. The insignia was canceled on 30 March 1998 but was reinstated for the 158th Regiment, Arizona Army National Guard, on 7 May 1998, and for the 158th Infantry Regiment on 22 November 2005, with updates to its symbolism and description.
