Below the shield is a scroll inscribed "ARTE ET ARMIS" in blue letters. The crest, on a wreath of Or and Azure, depicts the blockhouse of old Fort Dearborn on a grassy field.

Symbolism:

The blue shield signifies the Infantry origins of the Regiment, while the three piles represent the rays of Artillery searchlights. The scarlet winged projectile symbolizes the Artillery and its antiaircraft capabilities. The motto "ARTE ET ARMIS" translates to "By Skill and Arms," reflecting the unit's proficiency and combat readiness.

Background:

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 202d Coast Artillery on October 31, 1925. It was redesignated for the 768th Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion on July 31, 1951, and for the 768th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion on February 19, 1957. The insignia was further redesignated for the 202d Artillery Regiment on January 6, 1961, and for the 202d Air Defense Artillery Regiment on July 6, 1972. The insignia was amended to revise the description and symbolism on September 21, 1989.
