Symbolism
The seahorse symbolizes the Regiment's allocation to Rhode Island and Connecticut, reflecting the old seafaring heritage of New England. The yellow and black colors represent the 64th Cavalry Division, to which the Regiment belongs. The motto, "SEE ONLY VICTORY," was bestowed upon the Regiment by its first Regular Army instructor, Colonel Francis C. Marshall.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on November 21, 1924, and amended to change the description on December 13, 1924. The insignia was rescinded on March 2, 1959.
