The 69th Infantry Regiment is a unit within the United States Army, tracing its history back to the early 20th century. It was first constituted on July 28, 1917, during World War I and saw action in the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne offensives. Post-World War I, the regiment continued its service throughout various conflicts and territories, including the Philippines, China, and Korea. In the Korean War, it was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation and two Distinguished Unit Citations for its actions during combat. The 69th Infantry Regiment is currently part of the 25th Infantry Division and has been deployed to Iraq twice—first in Operation Iraqi Freedom and later as part of Operation New Dawn. The regiment is known by various nicknames, including "Rock of the Marne" and "Fighting Irish." The 69th Infantry Regiment's soldiers are primarily responsible for conducting reconnaissance, security operations, direct-action raids, and humanitarian assistance and disaster response missions. They are trained to operate in mountainous and urban environments and are skilled in airborne operations.
