Description/Blazon

A shield with a silver background and a blue zigzag band topped with fleur-de-lis peaks. A blue scroll, inscribed with "COURAGE AND DEPENDABILITY" in silver letters, is attached below and along the sides of the shield.

Symbolism

The shield's colors represent the Infantry. The zigzag line and fleur-de-lis peaks symbolize the mountainous terrain where the unit fought in Italy during World War II. The regiment's participation in the North Apennines and Po Valley campaigns is reflected in these elements.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 6 September 1951 and amended on 4 March 1955 to correct the symbolism.
