Description/Blazon

Argent, on a bend Azure between a tomahawk Gules halved Sable in sinister chief and an arrow of the same barbed of the third in saltire, and an eagle's claw erased Proper in dexter base, three roses of the field seeded of the third, surmounted by a mural crown, all mounted on a heavy Roman Gold boss figure in high relief.

Symbolism

The shield is silver (white) with a blue bend, representing Infantry colors. The three heraldic flowers on the bend symbolize: the rose, emblematic of New York where the regimental headquarters was initially organized; the hispida, representing the Philippines where the regiment served during the Insurrection; and the temple flower, representing Cuba, where the regiment was active during the Spanish-American War. The arrow and tomahawk signify participation in Indian campaigns, while the eagle's claw represents the regiment's role in the Occupation of Germany after World War I.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 5 November 1923 and amended to correct the description on 28 April 1925.
