Benjamin H. Grierson was a Major General serving in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Born on November 18, 1826, in Ohio, he is particularly recognized for his strategic role in the Great Raid of 1863, a daring operation that disrupted Confederate communication and supply lines in Mississippi and Tennessee. Prior to this significant action, Grierson had served as a lawyer in Mississippi and was active within the abolitionist movement. After the Civil War, he continued his legal career and also held various diplomatic positions under President Ulysses S. Grant's administration. He passed away on July 24, 1911.
