Benjamin McCulloch, C.S.A. (U.S. Civil War) Benjamin McCulloch was a Confederate States Army officer during the U.S. Civil War. Born in Tennessee in 1805, he served as a captain in the Texas Rangers and played a significant role in the Mexican-American War before the Civil War began. He was a key figure in the early successes of the Confederacy, particularly at the Battle of Pea Ridge in Arkansas. McCulloch later clashed with other Southern military leaders, notably Nathan Banks, over tactics and strategy. Tragically, he died in 1862 due to complications from an illness contracted during a campaign against the Union army, leaving a lasting impact on the course of the Civil War.
