Engineer Command Vietnam (U.S. Army) The Engineer Command Vietnam was a component of the United States Army responsible for various engineering tasks during the Vietnam War. The command, headquartered in Saigon, oversaw a wide range of engineering activities including construction, maintenance, and improvement of infrastructure such as roads, bridges, airfields, and fortifications. It also conducted riverine and coastal engineering to support logistics operations and amphibious landings. The Engineer Command Vietnam was divided into several subordinate units, each specializing in different areas. For example, the 519th River Assault Bridge Company was tasked with crossing obstacles like rivers and trenches using portable bridges. The Seabee Teams were responsible for construction work under combat conditions in remote or hostile locations. The Engineer Command Vietnam played a crucial role in supporting the U.S. military effort during the Vietnam War, enabling movement of troops and supplies, facilitating communications, and contributing to the overall success of operations. After the withdrawal of American forces from Vietnam in 1975, the Engineer Command was disestablished.
