The Flag of Holyoke, Massachusetts, is the official symbol representing this city in Hampden County. Adopted on March 8, 1946, the flag design features a rectangular field divided into three vertical sections of equal size by two horizontal stripes, one-third from the top and bottom edges respectively. The upper section is white, with a blue Maltese cross centered in it. The middle section is green, symbolizing the city's agricultural heritage. The lower section is red, representing Holyoke's industrial past and present. Three gold five-pointed stars are placed on the green field, representing the city's three industrial centers: paper, textiles, and rubber. This design was created by John J. McCoy, a former Mayor of Holyoke, who combined elements from the coat of arms designed by William T. Bates in 1854. The flag serves as a visual emblem of civic pride for residents and visitors alike, reflecting Holyoke's rich history and diverse industries.
