The Flag of Koto Tokyo, Japan, is the official symbol of one of Japan's 47 prefectural units, known as a special wards or city wards, which are equivalent to a prefecture but are located within a metropolis. The flag features three horizontal stripes in the colors red, white, and blue, with a stylized image of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (TMG) at Shintomicho in its center. The TMG symbol is designed to resemble the character "Tokyo" in Japanese calligraphy. The flag was officially adopted on January 1, 2001. The red and white stripes are traditional colors used in many Japanese flags, while the use of blue is unique to the Koto Tokyo flag.
