The Greater Coat of Arms of Chile refers to the national emblem used by the country from 1819 until 1834. This heraldic design is a symbolic representation of Chilean history, culture, and ideals during this period. The coat of arms consists of several key elements: - Shield: Divided into four quarters, with each quarter representing one of the provinces that united to form Chile (Coquimbo, Araucania, Concepción, and Chilean Andes). - Crest: A condor (the national bird of Chile) holding a scroll in its beak, bearing the motto "Por la razón o la fuerza" (For Reason or by Force). - Supporters: Two maps of the world, representing Chile's maritime and overseas interests. - Mantling: The field below the shield is covered with olive branches, symbolizing peace, and a torrent of water, representing the Andean rivers that flow through the country. This Greater Coat of Arms of Chile was later replaced by a smaller version in 1834, which remains the official national emblem today.
