The Royal Coat of Arms of the Netherlands is a heraldic symbol used by the Dutch monarchy, government, and military forces to represent the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It consists of a shield divided into four quarters and an escutcheon in the center. Each quarter displays different symbols: a lion (the arms of Guelders), three lions passant-guardant (the arms of Holland), a black bull (the arms of Brabant), and a white horse (the arms of Friesland). The shield is surrounded by a collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece, and supported by a lion and a leopard. The modern version was officially adopted in 1815 after the establishment of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands.
