It was part of the Soyuz Programme, a human spaceflight program operated by Roscosmos, the Russian federal space agency. This particular mission, designated as TMA-12M, carried three astronauts: commander Oleg Artemyev, flight engineer Sergey Volkov, and science cosmonaut Alexander Skvortsov. The launch took place on March 27, 2014, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. This spacecraft docked with the ISS on March 29, 2014, marking the beginning of their six-month mission aboard the orbiting laboratory. The Soyuz TMA-12M returned to Earth safely on September 11, 2014, landing in a remote area of Kazakhstan. Throughout its operational life, the Soyuz TMA-12M played a crucial role in maintaining the crew size and supplies aboard the ISS.
