The United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) is a federal service academy located in New London, Connecticut. It was established by an Act of Congress in 1945, serving as the education institution for officers who serve within the U.S. Coast Guard and its sister services. The academy emphasizes professional leadership development, academic studies, physical fitness, and a rigorous curriculum that focuses on engineering, mathematics, science, humanities, and military disciplines. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Science degree and are commissioned as ensigns in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving active duty for at least five years after graduation.
