The 12 Air Force, part of the United States Army, is a major operational command within the U.S. Air Force. It was established on September 16, 1947, and is headquartered at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. The 12th Air Force oversees air, space, cyber, and information operations across North America and is responsible for the defense of the United States and its territories. Its missions include air defense, aerospace control, global strike, command and control, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. The 12th Air Force operates under the Unified Combatant Command structure, reporting to both U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) and United States Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM).
