Description

A shield blazoned: Azure, six fleurs-de-lis arranged one, two, and three Or, with a chief of the same, and four piles Gules. Below and to the sides of the shield, a gold scroll is inscribed "MOUNTED AND READY" in blue letters.

Symbolism

Yellow represents Cavalry. The gold fleurs-de-lis on the blue field are taken from the arms of the Province of Île-de-France, where Paris and the departments of Aisne and Oise are located. These fleurs-de-lis signify the unit's six campaigns in France during World War I, particularly actions in or near Aisne and Oise, for which the unit received the French Croix de Guerre. The gold upper portion of the shield, with its scarlet piles, symbolizes the Northern Lights, visible from the Aleutian Islands where the unit served during World War II. The four piles represent the four main groups of the Aleutian Islands and are scarlet, denoting the unit's Artillery branch in both World Wars.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on June 12, 1967.
