Description/Blazon

A light blue rectangle with a semi-circular bottom edge. The design features three conjoined inverted piles in scarlet, white, and blue, issuing from the base. A black pile, charged with a gold lightning flash, extends from the top of the device.

Symbolism

The light blue background represents the Infantry branch. The black triangular pile symbolizes the unit's connection to the original 83rd Infantry Division, while the lightning bolt evokes the unit's nickname. The three scarlet, white, and blue sections at the base represent the three phases of service members' training and also reflect the national colors. The black border stands for unity and solidarity, and the gold signifies excellence.

Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 8 January 2007.
