Description/Blazon

A shield blazoned: Argent (silver), a fess archy in the colors of the rainbow (Gules, Or, and Azure), positioned above a black Maltese cross with a blue border. A silver scroll inscribed with "FOLLOW ME" in blue letters is attached below and along the sides of the shield.

Symbolism

The shield's white field with a blue border represents both the traditional and more recent Infantry colors. The rainbow arch symbolizes the 42nd Division's service in World War I, while the black Maltese cross commemorates the Regiment's service in Puerto Rico during the Spanish-American War.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 31 July 1926.
