Description/Blazon:

A a vertical gold arrow with a red arrowhead and red flight feathers. The arrow extends between the saltirewise upper part of a gold Nike missile and a gold antiaircraft shell, all in front of and extending over a gold octagon with a celestial blue nebuly disc. Encircling the sides and base of the octagon is a red scroll terminating at the heads of the missile and shell, with the inscription "DEFENSE" on one side and "IN DEPTH" on the other in gold letters.

Symbolism:

Scarlet and gold (yellow) represent the colors of Air Defense Artillery. The scarlet fleur-de-lis commemorates the organization's campaign awards for World War II service in the European Theater, while the scarlet arrowhead symbolizes the Normandy assault landing. The antiaircraft shell reflects the Group's historic Antiaircraft Artillery service, and the Nike missile signifies early involvement in the Nike missile program. The celestial blue nebuly disc denotes the Air Defense mission, and the upright arrow and octagon also hint at the Group's numerical designation.

Background:

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 18th Artillery Group on June 5, 1969, and was redesignated for the 18th Air Defense Artillery Group on April 4, 1972.
