1900 British Empire flag proposal Parsons (United Kingdom) Shot Glass 1.5oz

A white field divided into four quadrants, each holding the emblems of different parts of the British Empire, reproduces J. Denham Parsons' 1900 proposal for an imperial flag.

Visual Elements & Composition

White covers half the design and sets a calm ground for the emblems, with red, gold, green and a touch of purple as accents. The cross of St George runs through the layout, and the emblems sit in a quadrant arrangement. Top left shows the emblems of England, a Tudor rose among them. Top right holds those of Scotland and Ireland, with a thistle and a harp. Bottom left shows Canada and Australia, with a maple leaf and a shield, and bottom right shows India and South Africa, with an eight-pointed star and a lion rampant. Each quarter is distinct, yet they combine into one image.

Meaning & Symbolism

Parsons designed the flag to bring the territories of the empire into a single heraldic whole, with each emblem representing one part of it. The proposal was published in the St James's Gazette on 26 May 1900, and it was never officially adopted. As a result it stands as a clear record of how early twentieth-century imperial thinking pictured unity across many lands, and it is studied as a piece of vexillology.

Held Up Close

A shot glass is small and held close, so each quadrant is seen separately at eye level as the glass is lifted. The four emblems are easy to pick out at that range, and the white ground keeps them from crowding one another as the glass turns.

Compact, heavy-based shot glasses made from clear, restaurant-grade glass. One standard size (1.5 oz / ≈44.3 ml) — sturdy, stack-friendly, and built to handle frequent service without fuss.

These shot glasses feel solid in the hand thanks to a thick, weighty base that keeps them steady on busy bar tops. The walls are even and clear, giving a nice, unobstructed view of the pour; the rim is smoothed for comfortable sipping.

They’re engineered for regular use: consistent dimensions, dependable weight, and a simple silhouette that suits both casual venues and more formal tasting counters. Designed to perform rather than show off.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and clean presentation.
  • Capacity: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml) — standard shot measure.
  • Base: heavy solid glass base that reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Construction: restaurant-grade durability for frequent handling and washing.
  • Print-ready: suitable for single-sided print applications that withstand typical use.

Perfect for quick pours, samplers, and neat shots. Their compact footprint makes them easy to place on trays and tasting lines, while the heavier base keeps things steady during service.

  1. Bar service: quick, consistent pours — less wobble when carrying a tray of shots.
  2. Tastings: uniform size is handy for sampling flights or spirit tastings.
  3. Events: robust enough for pop-ups, festivals, and busy bartending shifts.

Storage tip: store upright and avoid tight stacking to protect rims and preserve clarity.

Dishwasher-safe for everyday cleaning — place on the top rack and use a normal household cycle. Repeated exposure to very high commercial temperatures can shorten glass life, so choose gentler programs where practical.

When you want to extend clarity and finish: hand-wash with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft cloth; dry right away to avoid water spots. Handle by the body (not the rim) to reduce accidental chipping.

One size only: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml). Use the dimensions below for shelving, packaging, or tray planning.
