1902 British Empire flag proposal in Canada (United Kingdom) Shot Glass 1.5oz

Here a golden sun rises over a white ground, with the Cross of Saint George and an imperial crown beside it, in the Canadian variant of an 1902 imperial flag that was never taken up.

Visual Elements & Composition

White and gold carry most of the design, with red, blue and a trace of green used for the cross, the scroll and the arms. The sun is the centre of the layout, placed where a viewer's eye lands first, and its wavy rays spread outward from it. The red Cross of Saint George sits on the white field, and the imperial crown occupies the canton. Blue scroll banners hold the Latin phrase IMPERIUM CUI NULLUS SOLIS OCCASUS. The Canadian coat of arms, a shield quartered with lions, fleurs-de-lis and a maple, is set in the fly of the field.

Meaning & Symbolism

The Cross of Saint George represents England, the golden sun stands for a global empire, and the crown in the canton expresses imperial unity. The Canadian version gave the nation its own coat of arms, placing a Canadian element within the wider imperial design. The proposal was reported by the Daily Express in March 1902 and was never officially adopted, which makes it a clear example of how the empire's flag ideas were debated in the early twentieth century.

In the Hand

A shot glass is small and held close, so the sun and the crown are read at eye level as the glass is raised. The gold rays and the red cross stand apart from the white ground, and the coat of arms rests at the edge of the view as the glass is turned.

Compact, heavy-based shot glasses made from clear, restaurant-grade glass. One standard size (1.5 oz / ≈44.3 ml) — sturdy, stack-friendly, and built to handle frequent service without fuss.

These shot glasses feel solid in the hand thanks to a thick, weighty base that keeps them steady on busy bar tops. The walls are even and clear, giving a nice, unobstructed view of the pour; the rim is smoothed for comfortable sipping.

They’re engineered for regular use: consistent dimensions, dependable weight, and a simple silhouette that suits both casual venues and more formal tasting counters. Designed to perform rather than show off.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and clean presentation.
  • Capacity: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml) — standard shot measure.
  • Base: heavy solid glass base that reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Construction: restaurant-grade durability for frequent handling and washing.
  • Print-ready: suitable for single-sided print applications that withstand typical use.

Perfect for quick pours, samplers, and neat shots. Their compact footprint makes them easy to place on trays and tasting lines, while the heavier base keeps things steady during service.

  1. Bar service: quick, consistent pours — less wobble when carrying a tray of shots.
  2. Tastings: uniform size is handy for sampling flights or spirit tastings.
  3. Events: robust enough for pop-ups, festivals, and busy bartending shifts.

Storage tip: store upright and avoid tight stacking to protect rims and preserve clarity.

Dishwasher-safe for everyday cleaning — place on the top rack and use a normal household cycle. Repeated exposure to very high commercial temperatures can shorten glass life, so choose gentler programs where practical.

When you want to extend clarity and finish: hand-wash with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft cloth; dry right away to avoid water spots. Handle by the body (not the rim) to reduce accidental chipping.

One size only: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml). Use the dimensions below for shelving, packaging, or tray planning.
