1916 British Empire flag proposal (United Kingdom) Shot Glass 1.5oz

This design shows a 1916 proposal that laid a thin cross over the Union Jack, a navy, white and red banner that gave the Dominions a visible place in the Empire's symbol.

Visual Elements & Composition

The familiar Union Jack fills the rectangular field in navy blue, white and crimson red, with St George's, St Andrew's and St Patrick's crosses forming its structure. Laid across the top is a thin white cross, a modification that cuts through the existing bands and changes the flag's balance. Navy blue dominates, and the diagonal and upright bands of the Union flag give the composition its strong, familiar shape. Flat vector shading keeps the colour blocks crisp and clear.

Meaning & Symbolism

The proposal was put forward by John Lavington Bonython, a former mayor of Adelaide, and the added cross was meant to show the growing importance of the British Dominions within the Empire. Rather than replacing the Union Jack, it reshaped the design to recognise the Dominions as a larger part of the whole. The flag was never officially adopted, and it stands as a study of early twentieth-century imperial symbolism.

In the Hand, at Arm's Length

A shot glass is small and held close, so the cross and the bands of the Union flag are read at a glance as the glass is raised. The compact, straight-sided form keeps the emblem within a single frame, and the clear glass lets the navy and red show clearly against the surface beneath.

Compact, heavy-based shot glasses made from clear, restaurant-grade glass. One standard size (1.5 oz / ≈44.3 ml) — sturdy, stack-friendly, and built to handle frequent service without fuss.

These shot glasses feel solid in the hand thanks to a thick, weighty base that keeps them steady on busy bar tops. The walls are even and clear, giving a nice, unobstructed view of the pour; the rim is smoothed for comfortable sipping.

They’re engineered for regular use: consistent dimensions, dependable weight, and a simple silhouette that suits both casual venues and more formal tasting counters. Designed to perform rather than show off.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and clean presentation.
  • Capacity: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml) — standard shot measure.
  • Base: heavy solid glass base that reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Construction: restaurant-grade durability for frequent handling and washing.
  • Print-ready: suitable for single-sided print applications that withstand typical use.

Perfect for quick pours, samplers, and neat shots. Their compact footprint makes them easy to place on trays and tasting lines, while the heavier base keeps things steady during service.

  1. Bar service: quick, consistent pours — less wobble when carrying a tray of shots.
  2. Tastings: uniform size is handy for sampling flights or spirit tastings.
  3. Events: robust enough for pop-ups, festivals, and busy bartending shifts.

Storage tip: store upright and avoid tight stacking to protect rims and preserve clarity.

Dishwasher-safe for everyday cleaning — place on the top rack and use a normal household cycle. Repeated exposure to very high commercial temperatures can shorten glass life, so choose gentler programs where practical.

When you want to extend clarity and finish: hand-wash with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft cloth; dry right away to avoid water spots. Handle by the body (not the rim) to reduce accidental chipping.

One size only: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml). Use the dimensions below for shelving, packaging, or tray planning.
