Description

A silhouette of a pine cone surmounted at the base by a fesswise bayonet, both in base metal. The bayonet supports a green spade with the point up, and a gold projectile is placed palewise overall. Attached below the device is a green scroll inscribed with "EYES OF HICKORY" in gold letters.

Symbolism

Yellow and green are derived from the unit’s coat of arms. The pine cone symbolizes North Carolina, the unit's home area. The bayonet represents the Infantry mission, both historically since November 1920 and currently. The spade signifies the Engineer mission, while the projectile represents the Artillery mission, reflecting both aspects of the unit's history.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on October 4, 1965.
