Description/Blazon

A shield blazoned with a chevron design in azure and argent. A silver cloud issues two gold lightning flashes at the base, beneath which is a wolf's head erased in blue. A blue scroll is attached below and to the sides of the shield, inscribed with "THUNDERWOLVES" in silver letters.

Symbolism

The silver chevron represents Alaska's iconic Mount McKinley and the region's mountainous terrain. The lightning flashes signify speed and power, while the timber wolf, native to the area, symbolizes the unit's aggressiveness. The use of gold highlights the Cavalry's traditional color.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on February 22, 1974.
