The 297th Infantry Regiment is a United States Army infantry regiment with a rich history dating back to World War I. Originally formed in 1917, it was part of the 118th Infantry Brigade and served in several combat operations throughout its existence. The regiment saw action during the Siberian Expedition of 1918-1919, where it was stationed in Vladivostok, Russia. It was then deployed to Europe for duty with the American Expeditionary Forces during World War II, participating in campaigns such as Normandy and Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Post-World War II, the 297th Infantry Regiment took part in the Korean War under the Command of General Douglas MacArthur, where it earned a Presidential Unit Citation and numerous battle streamers for its service. After Korea, the regiment was deactivated and reorganized multiple times throughout the Cold War era. In 1985, the 297th Infantry Regiment was officially inactivated as part of the United States Army's force reduction efforts.
