Description/Blazon

A shield divided by a dancetté line into a blue upper section and a white lower section. In the base of the shield is a black Tlingit Indian eagle, with gold talons and white accents. A blue scroll with the inscription "YUH YEK" in silver letters is attached below and to the sides of the shield.

Symbolism

The blue and white colors represent Infantry organizations. The zigzag line symbolizes mountains, referencing service in Alaska during World War II. The Tlingit Indian eagle signifies the battalion's roots in Southeast Alaska. The motto, "YUH YEK," translates to "Vigilance, Watchfulness."

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 208th Infantry Battalion on 5 March 1952. It was redesignated for the 297th Infantry Regiment on 18 July 1960.
