Symbolism
The yellow shield represents Cavalry. The three red pales symbolize the three Artillery units that formed the 308th Cavalry during World War I. The black bear, derived from the seal of California, where the Regiment was originally organized, denotes its origins. The motto translates to "Never Unprepared."

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on March 13, 1926. It was rescinded on February 17, 1959.
