Description/Blazon

A shield blazoned: Azure, a bend Or. Below the shield, a blue scroll inscribed with the motto "I SERVE" in gold letters.

Symbolism

The blue shield represents Infantry. The bend Or is derived from the coat of arms of Alsace, highlighting the historical connection of the Regiment.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 51st Regiment Infantry on 24 January 1930. It was amended on 11 May 1937, redesignated for the 51st Infantry (Armored) on 23 September 1941, and then redesignated for the 51st Armored Infantry Regiment on 23 April 1942. Further redesignations include the 51st Armored Infantry Battalion on 6 November 1943, the 51st Constabulary Squadron on 4 December 1946, the 51st Armored Infantry Battalion on 22 June 1954, and finally, the 51st Infantry on 28 January 1958.
