Description/Blazon

A red diamond-shaped spearhead pointed upwards, intersecting a blue wave. Surrounding the base of the spearhead is a silver scroll inscribed with the words "WE WILL" in black.

Symbolism

The design represents the 5th Division's successful breach of the German Army’s Meuse River defenses during World War I, an accomplishment that earned them the title "Meuse Division" and their Red Diamond emblem. General Pershing described the operation as "one of the most brilliant military feats in the history of the American Army in France."

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 27 September 1965.
