The 71st Evacuation Hospital was a medical facility unit of the United States Army during World War II. It played a significant role in providing emergency and surgical care for wounded soldiers on the battlefield, as well as during evacuation to more permanent hospitals. The hospital unit was mobilized on November 25, 1942, with its basic training taking place at Camp Lee, Virginia. After further training at Fort Benning, Georgia, the unit deployed overseas in March 1943. The 71st Evacuation Hospital saw action across various fronts during World War II, including North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, and the Pacific Theater. Notably, it was one of the first U.S. Army medical units to arrive in Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944.
