Description/Blazon

A shield blazoned: Azure, a cross Gules fimbriated Argent; in dexter chief, two arrows saltirewise of the same; and in sinister base, a fleur-de-lis of the last. Attached below is a silver scroll inscribed "AUDAX ET FORTIS" in blue letters.

Symbolism

Blue represents the Infantry. The red cross, featured on the Norwegian flag, alludes to the 3rd Battalion (99th Infantry Battalion), established in 1942 with Norwegian Americans. The remainder of the Regiment, consisting of personnel from the Canadian-American 1st Special Service Force, is represented by the crossed arrows. The fleur-de-lis denotes the Regiment's European battle honors from World War II. The motto translates to "Bold and Brave."

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 23 August 1954.
