Description/Blazon

A blue shield featuring a silver cross arranged in a saltire (diagonal) pattern. The motto "RIDE THE STORM" accompanies the design.

Symbolism

The blue shield represents the Infantry. The cross forms two intersecting "8"s, a subtle reference to the unit's designation, often seen as canting heraldry. The cross also resembles a propeller, symbolizing the unit's connection to aviation.

Background

The coat of arms was initially approved for the 88th Infantry Airborne Battalion on 17 December 1941, with a historical correction made on 23 January 1942. The insignia was redesignated for the 88th Infantry Regiment on 30 September 1942 and was rescinded on 10 February 1959.
