Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the 8th Division on 8 April 1919. It was redesignated for the 8th Infantry Division retroactively to 15 May 1943, and amended on 27 February 1970 to adjust the design dimensions and add a border for overedge stitching.
