A. Kirsten Reedereiflagge (Germany) Shot Glass 1.5oz

This design shows a triangular shipping pennant from Hamburg, built from nine vertical stripes that alternate between red and white.

Visual Elements & Composition

Five red stripes and four white stripes run side by side, making the pennant a bold, simple study in rhythm. The stripes are vertical rectangles set into a triangular outline, and red takes up the larger share of the artwork. The flat vector style keeps every edge sharp, so the pattern reads cleanly even at a small size. Nothing else competes with the stripes, which is why the composition feels so direct.

Meaning & Symbolism

The pennant was adopted in 1867 by Adolf Kirsten for his shipping company, A. Kirsten & Co., and it grew out of a design used by the sons of the Hamburg shipbroker H.F. Kirsten as early as 1854. Sailors nicknamed it "Durchwachsener Speck," or streaky bacon, after the way its stripes look. The nickname is a reminder of how working seafarers read the flags they saw every day in the harbour.

Where the Pennant Meets the Glass

A shot glass is small and held close, so the stripes sit right in front of the drinker, with the triangle echoed in the curve of the glass. The pattern is best seen up close, and each red and white band reads as a clear, separate line as the glass is raised. It is a quiet link between a working harbour and the bar counter.

Compact, heavy-based shot glasses made from clear, restaurant-grade glass. One standard size (1.5 oz / ≈44.3 ml) — sturdy, stack-friendly, and built to handle frequent service without fuss.

These shot glasses feel solid in the hand thanks to a thick, weighty base that keeps them steady on busy bar tops. The walls are even and clear, giving a nice, unobstructed view of the pour; the rim is smoothed for comfortable sipping.

They’re engineered for regular use: consistent dimensions, dependable weight, and a simple silhouette that suits both casual venues and more formal tasting counters. Designed to perform rather than show off.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and clean presentation.
  • Capacity: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml) — standard shot measure.
  • Base: heavy solid glass base that reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Construction: restaurant-grade durability for frequent handling and washing.
  • Print-ready: suitable for single-sided print applications that withstand typical use.

Perfect for quick pours, samplers, and neat shots. Their compact footprint makes them easy to place on trays and tasting lines, while the heavier base keeps things steady during service.

  1. Bar service: quick, consistent pours — less wobble when carrying a tray of shots.
  2. Tastings: uniform size is handy for sampling flights or spirit tastings.
  3. Events: robust enough for pop-ups, festivals, and busy bartending shifts.

Storage tip: store upright and avoid tight stacking to protect rims and preserve clarity.

Dishwasher-safe for everyday cleaning — place on the top rack and use a normal household cycle. Repeated exposure to very high commercial temperatures can shorten glass life, so choose gentler programs where practical.

When you want to extend clarity and finish: hand-wash with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft cloth; dry right away to avoid water spots. Handle by the body (not the rim) to reduce accidental chipping.

One size only: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml). Use the dimensions below for shelving, packaging, or tray planning.
