Meaning & Symbolism

The standard dates to around 1736, when Nader Shah was rising to power. The choice of colours was deliberate: Nader Shah set green aside to distance his regime from the Safavid dynasty, which was closely tied to Shia Islam, and to present a more inclusive stance toward Sunni supporters. Stripped back to three colours, the design speaks of military authority and of a political transition.
