Arizona 487 1963 (Arizona) (Road Sign) Shot Glass 1.5oz

This design takes a plain Arizona route marker and a state outline, set flat and black on off-white, and presents them as a quiet piece of Pop Art about the American highway.

Visual Elements & Composition

Black dominates the artwork, covering close to half of its surface against a bright off-white field. A shield-shaped outline of the Arizona state route sits at the centre, framed by a plain rectangle, with the state's outline drawn beside it. The numerals 487 and the word ARIZONA are the only text, set in a flat vector style with no shading, gradient or decoration. The result is a sign rendered with the restraint of a diagram.

Meaning & Symbolism

The imagery draws on Edward Ruscha's 1963 artist's book Twentysix Gasoline Stations, built from photographs he took in 1962 of service stations along Route 66, including the Arizona stops at Williams, Winslow and Lupton. Ruscha documented ordinary roadside architecture without romance, and that deadpan stance is what gives the design its weight. A route marker stands for standardisation, mass-produced branding and the open road of mid-century America, the same commercial everyday that Pop Art was fascinated by. Ruscha's approach later helped set the stage for conceptual photography and the New Topographics movement.

On the Shot Glass

A shot glass is small, held close and raised in a single motion, so the design is seen at nearly eye level and at the moment of the toast. The shield and the numerals sit inside a narrow, upright frame that suits a vessel of this shape, and the black lines read clearly as the glass catches the light. It is a fitting piece of road-trip memorabilia for anyone who has ever stopped at a roadside station and wondered what the sign was really saying.

Compact, heavy-based shot glasses made from clear, restaurant-grade glass. One standard size (1.5 oz / ≈44.3 ml) — sturdy, stack-friendly, and built to handle frequent service without fuss.

These shot glasses feel solid in the hand thanks to a thick, weighty base that keeps them steady on busy bar tops. The walls are even and clear, giving a nice, unobstructed view of the pour; the rim is smoothed for comfortable sipping.

They’re engineered for regular use: consistent dimensions, dependable weight, and a simple silhouette that suits both casual venues and more formal tasting counters. Designed to perform rather than show off.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and clean presentation.
  • Capacity: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml) — standard shot measure.
  • Base: heavy solid glass base that reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Construction: restaurant-grade durability for frequent handling and washing.
  • Print-ready: suitable for single-sided print applications that withstand typical use.

Perfect for quick pours, samplers, and neat shots. Their compact footprint makes them easy to place on trays and tasting lines, while the heavier base keeps things steady during service.

  1. Bar service: quick, consistent pours — less wobble when carrying a tray of shots.
  2. Tastings: uniform size is handy for sampling flights or spirit tastings.
  3. Events: robust enough for pop-ups, festivals, and busy bartending shifts.

Storage tip: store upright and avoid tight stacking to protect rims and preserve clarity.

Dishwasher-safe for everyday cleaning — place on the top rack and use a normal household cycle. Repeated exposure to very high commercial temperatures can shorten glass life, so choose gentler programs where practical.

When you want to extend clarity and finish: hand-wash with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft cloth; dry right away to avoid water spots. Handle by the body (not the rim) to reduce accidental chipping.

One size only: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml). Use the dimensions below for shelving, packaging, or tray planning.
