Arms of Barrow in Furness (England) Shot Glass - Design Description

This shot glass showcases the intricate and historically rich Coat of Arms of Barrow-in-Furness, a symbol that encapsulates the town's heritage and aspirations.

The Shield: A Story in Colors and Symbols

The central element is the shield, dominated by the vibrant red field (Gules), a traditional heraldic color signifying strength and valor. A diagonal golden stripe (Bend) elegantly bisects the shield, creating a dynamic visual flow.

Positioned on the bend is an upward-pointing arrow, with a bee in flight (Bee volant) positioned above. This imagery is a direct reference to the town's name, with the bee representing the "B" of "Barrow" and the arrow conveying the idea of direction and progress.

The upper portion of the shield (chief) is a silver (Argent) band, depicting waves of the sea, upon which rests a paddle-wheel steamship. This steamship is rendered in its natural colors (proper), and serves as a powerful reminder of Barrow's significant maritime heritage and its prominent role in shipping and port-related industries.

Completing the shield's design, a coiled serpent (Serpent nowed) is displayed in the upper field, alongside a walking stag (Stag trippant) below. These elements are borrowed from the crests of the Duke of Buccleuch and the Duke of Devonshire, important figures during Barrow's early development.

The Crest: A Head for Progress

Above the shield sits the crest, a further symbolic element. It features the battlements of a tower, from which emerges a ram's head (Ram's head proper), armed and collared in gold (Or). This represents Sir James Ramsden, Barrow's first mayor, a key contributor to the town's growth.

A Motto of Aspiration

The entire design is underscored by the motto "Semper Sursum," inscribed in the form of a band or ribbon, adding the phrase "Ever Upwards" the enduring spirit of progress and ambition.

This shot glass design celebrates Barrow-in-Furness by showcasing the artwork of its Coat of Arms, a statement of local pride and historical representation.

Compact, heavy-based shot glasses made from clear, restaurant-grade glass. One standard size (1.5 oz / ≈44.3 ml) — sturdy, stack-friendly, and built to handle frequent service without fuss.

These shot glasses feel solid in the hand thanks to a thick, weighty base that keeps them steady on busy bar tops. The walls are even and clear, giving a nice, unobstructed view of the pour; the rim is smoothed for comfortable sipping.

They’re engineered for regular use: consistent dimensions, dependable weight, and a simple silhouette that suits both casual venues and more formal tasting counters. Designed to perform rather than show off.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and clean presentation.
  • Capacity: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml) — standard shot measure.
  • Base: heavy solid glass base that reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Construction: restaurant-grade durability for frequent handling and washing.
  • Print-ready: suitable for single-sided print applications that withstand typical use.

Perfect for quick pours, samplers, and neat shots. Their compact footprint makes them easy to place on trays and tasting lines, while the heavier base keeps things steady during service.

  1. Bar service: quick, consistent pours — less wobble when carrying a tray of shots.
  2. Tastings: uniform size is handy for sampling flights or spirit tastings.
  3. Events: robust enough for pop-ups, festivals, and busy bartending shifts.

Storage tip: store upright and avoid tight stacking to protect rims and preserve clarity.

Dishwasher-safe for everyday cleaning — place on the top rack and use a normal household cycle. Repeated exposure to very high commercial temperatures can shorten glass life, so choose gentler programs where practical.

When you want to extend clarity and finish: hand-wash with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft cloth; dry right away to avoid water spots. Handle by the body (not the rim) to reduce accidental chipping.

One size only: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml). Use the dimensions below for shelving, packaging, or tray planning.
